CHARLO REGIONAL AIRPORT AUTHORITY WELCOMES FUNDING ANNOUNCEMENT FROM THE GOVERNMENT OF CANADA
Charlo, NB – The Charlo Regional Airport Authority is pleased with Government of Canada’s recent announcement that the Charlo Regional Airport will receive funding through its Airports Capital Assistance Program (ACAP), which provides assistance to regional airports throughout Canada.
Charlo Regional Airport will be receiving the following funding. A contribution of $567 600.00 for the first phase of the electrical system rehabilitation, which began in June 2020 is ongoing until the end of 2021. The second phase of the electrical system rehabilitation will receive a contribution of $1 543 300.00 during the years 2021-2023. Continuing in the years 2021-2023, a contribution of $467 500.00 will be received for the wildlife fence replacement.
As a not-for-profit corporation, the Charlo Regional Airport Authority’s primary source of revenue is generated from day-to-day operations, and is currently not sufficient to reinvest in major capital improvements. For small regional airports, receiving financial assistance from Transport Canada is a welcomed and crucial part of ensuring the safe and efficient operations of our community’s airport.
“The Charlo Regional Airport Authority is an important hub for residents and businesses in this region. This investment will help ensure continued safe and reliable airport operations for the residents of the region, many of whom depend on their local airports not only for personal travel and community resupply, but also for access to routine and emergency medical care in larger centers.” (René Arseneault, Madawaska-Restigouche)
